Hello. This is my digital home for astrophotography and a real-time journal about my journey into the stars. I have spent years as a professional photographer capturing life here on the ground. But lately, the dark, clear skies overhead have been calling my name, and I have decided it is time to look up.
"The Photon Photographer" serves as a real-time journal of my astrophotography journey. While I know my way around a camera blindfolded, tracking celestial bodies and capturing deep-sky objects presents an entirely different set of challenges. I am trading familiar gear and subjects for smart telescopes and specialized equipment. It's a bit overwhelming at times, as I am starting right at the bottom of the learning curve, but it’s also incredibly fun.
Here is what you can expect from this site as I navigate this new frontier of night sky photography:
Honest gear experiences: I will share my thoughts as I figure out what works and what does not when pointing my lenses at the night sky.
The learning process: You will witness my successes, but more importantly, you will see my mistakes and the lessons I learn from them.
A shared journey: My goal is to demystify the process of astrophotography so that other terrestrial photographers might feel inspired to try capturing the cosmos themselves.
I am excited to start collecting photons from millions of light-years away and sharing the results here. Thank you for coming along for the ride.
the life of a village against the life of the stars...
